Hotspots for biodiversity and orchids in Spain
A third of the 150 orchid species of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) are present in the calcareous and humid meadows of the natural park. The Sierra is recognized as a hotspot for this group and the rest of the bulb plants.
Sierra del Endrinal hike
Circular excursion on the Sierra del Endrinal, a 7 km walk with 500 m of elevation gain. A fairly short and comfortable journey, which of course offers variations, to explore varied ecosystems of altitude and immerse yourself in the world of karst (lapiaz, sinkholes, sinkholes, caves and galleries) of limestone mountains (especially limestone corals). Mediterranean flowers are abundant along the route and ibexes are never far away.
Protected Pinsapos trail
The famous pinsapo trail, which requires a special permit, and offers a long linear hike of more than 4 hours (12 km, D + 400m) and a return by taxi if you do not turn back. After a long steady climb on a marked path, we reach the ridge line and advance without difficulty on the ubac (the north face, cooler and shaded). Make way for the great forest of Spanish fir trees (pinsapos).
Garganta Verde
Another classic (5 km, D + 250m) and spectacular excursion which also requires a permit from the park to access a canyon with walls of 400 meters in height. Griffon vultures are legion there with one of the largest breeding colonies in Europe.
Walk: Majaceite bank
Another possibility, more family friendly, is undoubtedly to follow the bank of Majaceite (5 km, D + 200m) where water is the main protagonist. Dragonflies, dippers and butterflies are alive on the stream.
El Bosque Botanical Garden
After stops at different viewpoints and landscape interpretation, we will drive to the neighboring village of El Bosque and visit El Castillejo Botanical Garden, suitable for all travelers, and above all equipped with a vast collection of Mediterranean plants.
