The plain of the Spanish Levante, wedged between sea and mountains, makes the region vulnerable to flooding. These events, recurrent throughout history, seem to be intensifying with climate change.

Among the consequences of climate disruption, we can highlight the amplification of cyclogenesis, due to two main factors:
– Increasing instability of the Jet Stream, a current that separates the cells of the polar front and the temperate zone, causing an increase in polar depressions isolated from its front.
– Temperature deviations at the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, up to + 4ºC in summer, and significant increase in the amount of water vapor present in the atmosphere.

The foreseeable increase in extreme weather events now threatens the habitable space of the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Isolated cold polar air masses (DANA) collide with an increasingly warm and humid Mediterranean air mass, causing storms of increasing intensity and devastating flash floods. Unfortunately, due to its geographical location and irresponsible urban planning, the Valencia region is highly exposed.
Solidarity.
