An excellent birdwatching tour, allowing to visit the most rewarding sites in Costa del Sol. What is even more exceptional : we will be able to look for biodiversity in most major Andalusian ecosystems, from seaside to the mountain top… and gain good knowledge about Mediterranean wildlife.
Seawatching at Cabo Pino and Calaburras Lighthouse (Calahonda marine protected area). There, marine and coastal birds are awaiting for us, and are especially abundant in winter and migrations. An early meeting is necessary, though.
A visit to Guadalhorce estuary is compulsory since the marshes rank nº2 in eBird as best birdwatching site in Spain (!). No surprise, one of the most attractive wetland in Andalusia, with plethora of waterbirds and waders. In the good days, skilled birdwatchers see as much as one hundred species in this small reserve.
Our long loop will conduct us to Río Grande, another nice site with riverine forest.
It is time to head towards limestone ‘white’ sierra. Visit of El Juanar with beautiful views over the Costa del Sol and Africa. Timing should be good for some raptor. In hot days, pine forest will protect us somewhat from the heat.
Next move to a small reservoirs and Mediterranean stream, flowing from nearby Sierra de Las Nieves National Park, where more awesome biodiversity is waiting for us.
