Classic route of the white villages of the north of the Cádiz province with starting point in the city of Ronda. Our originality consists in interpreting their natural features, which are very special, and commenting on the customs of rural life that survive in these small enclaves.
SETENIL DE LAS BODEGAS. A peculiar village of troglodyte houses set on the banks of a stream that eroded a rock similar to Ronda’s gash and turned it into a canyon. It is exceptional for the large number of urban birds, swallows, house martins, swifts and lesser kestrels, which nest and can easily be seen.
ZAHARA DE LA SIERRA. Former fortress of strategic importance during the Middle Ages and located on the border between Christian Seville and Muslim Ronda. Set on a promontory, the castle tower offers magnificent views over the surroundings. The climb is steep but allows to cross Mediterranean species-rich habitats and to look at interesting plants and butterflies.
GRAZALEMA. The main population of the Sierra de Grazalema natural park. Walking through its streets is very pleasant and entertaining. A natural balcony offers beautiful views and is an ideal place for watching griffon vultures and other cliff birds. The park is famous for its endemic Spanish fire forest, nevertheless its access is restricted.
On the way back to Ronda, we will cross an attractive mixed pasture oak forest, a source of inspiration for numerous artists.
