The Genal Valley is one of the most beautiful places in Andalusia … and with significant slopes. Its forest-covered terrain have steep hills and most excursions need a minimum of shape to overcome several hundred meters of unevenness. For this reason, we have selected a route that is adapted to the senior public, families and travelers who start trekking, so that everyone can enjoy the experience of walking around the Genal.
The excursion has two variants and two very useful shortcuts when it comes to adjusting the effort and walking time: the first variant of just over 5 km in length is simpler and shorter, it goes up and down a very smooth and very easy to hike slope, it is made circular walking a few hundred meters along the road. The second variant is circular and longer, about 12 km in length, adding a walk by a hill with not too demanding slopes.
We will walk through La Dorsal, the small massif that separates the valleys of the Genal and Guadiaro rivers. We will have the opportunity to discover and compare the landscapes of both valleys and the ridge, with its rocks and cragg. We will look at the distant mountains and enter the forest along an old path.
This route is very close to the villages and allows to acknowledge the past and present life within this rural enclave.
