The aim of this hike located in the heart of the Genal Valley, is to reach by foot, as authentic Serrano muleteers, the village of Genalguacil, which has become famous for the Art Meetings of the Genal Valley, an artistic biennial organized in the first fortnight of August of the even years, seed of a Museum of Contemporary Art and an exhibition of outdoor sculptures. Not surprisingly Genalguacil earned its nickname “museum village”.
Walking from Benarrabá to Genalguacil is a fantastic excursion in which we cross the Genal River at the height of the Prados de la Escribana. downhill and uphill, leisure time in the white village, and again downhill and uphill. A total length of approximately 12 km with a little more than 800 meters of positive slope that leads us into an extensive cork oak, dotted with portugese oaks and chestnut trees, a dense forest where the cork is collected in the middle of June.
Genalguacil offers an ideal stop to regain strength midway and to enjoy the more than 80 works of art exhibited in its streets. Surprising corners and alleys are filled with art and inspiration.
Finally it is worth mentioning the magnificent landscapes offered by the viewpoint near the church and its Plaza de la Iglesia.
