An extensive network of trails

The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is very famous throughout Spain for its rainfall and for having the highest mountain in the province of Cadiz, with an extensive network of trails. The payoyas goats and merino sheep of Grazalema delight in the pastures and provide milk for the most renowned cheeses in Andalusia. There is also a long tradition of mountaineering and hiking.

Hiking in the Mediterranean Mountains

We have prepared a spectacular route to enjoy hiking and discovering biodiversity.

Grazalema Landscapes

Famous among travelers for its steep mountain ridges and limestone karst forms. We will discover seasonal species such as the mountain goat, the griffon vulture and the Spanish fir.

Easy hike for seniors and families

We will adjust together the duration and difficulty of the routes. For comfort we recommend walking 6 hours a day at a medium pace. Gentle exercises will stretch and strengthen the body.

The traditional lifestyle of the Sierra

We will look at the traditions and cultural elements of the natural park, its local breeds and taste the gastronomy of the Sierra.

Tour variants and options

The centrally located village of Grazalema is a very good option to establish a base camp from which to discover the park.

It is also worth a trek of several days, walking from village to village. We recommend staying in family-run rural hotels.

The area offers so many trails that it is impossible to establish a “best” route. Treks of 2 days or more are possible.

DAY 1 : The Majaceite River

We will meet in the morning at the Seville airport or in the center of the city and quickly head to El Bosque. This first stage is a short and pleasant walk to the village of Benahoma.

DAY 2 | The pinsapar and the village of Grazalema

A long and steady climb gives way to the great forest of Spanish firs, on the north side of the Sierra del Pinar, cooler and shadier. After advancing without difficulty on the ridge line, we descend to the cozy village of Grazalema.

Grazalema | Sierra del Endrinal

A circular and comfortable route, which allows you to explore the sierra and observe the geological formations of the karst with its varied pattern (lapiaz, dolines, caves and galleries) of the limestone mountains (especially the limestone corals). Mediterranean flowers abound along the route and mountain goats are never far away.

Une marche entre chênes lièges (Quercus suber)

Direct option| DAY 3 | The cork oak grove and Montejaque

The first option to reach the picturesque white village of Montejaque is to cross a very nice cork oak grove along the Guadares stream. The slope is gentle and the path is easy to walk. We can learn about life in an Andalusian farmhouse.

Longer route : DAY 3 : Crossing to Villaluenga

This route crosses the Sierra del Endrinal and offers panoramic views of the region. Along the way, hikers can enjoy picturesque places such as the Cancho de la Berejuela, the Charca Verde or the Chozo del Reloj refuge house. In the afternoon, the village of Villaluenga del Rosario, famous for its payoyo cheese, is reached.

Longer route : DAY 4 : Llanos del Republicano y de Líbar

These plains are large karstic depressions of altitude, surrounded by limestone mountain ranges. Its isolation and tranquility transmits an intense sense of peace. Great day of hiking that finally reaches the village of Montejaque in the afternoon.

Falaises de Ronda

Last day : Destination Ronda

From Montejaque, we will gradually rejoin the city, crossing diverse landscapes, with a short and steep climb to the mountain, a small hermitage, passes through olive groves and farms, natural viewpoints with panoramic views, the iconic views of the New Bridge to finally reach the goal in the bustling city of Ronda.
