Serranía de Ronda and Grazalema

Close to Seville and Cadiz, and very popular among ornithologists, the Serrania offers one of the best areas in Europe to observe the birds of the Mediterranean mountain ranges, including Black Wheatear, a species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula and the Maghreb. Spain hosts the highest concentration of griffon vultures and Bonelli’s eagles in the world, both resident in Andalusia.

Cliffs and crags

The cliffs and rocky areas attract species that are absent from the Andalusian plains, such as Red-billed Chough, Blue Rock-Thrush, Rock Bunting, and partial migrants like Crag Martin and Common Redstart.

A festival of raptors

Griffon vultures and other raptors breed or pass through the area in large numbers during the migration period.
Although resident, Bonelli’s eagles are difficult to observe due to their shy habits and character.

Shrublands and grasslands

he shrubs are home to Sardinian Warbler and other passerines such as Cirl Bunting. Additionaly, Thekla’s Lark and Rock Sparrow are typical Mediterranean specialties in the Andalusian sierras.

Rugged landscapes

In the limestone mountains, karst landscapes are always varied and spectacular. They provide the opportunity to approach the geology and history of the Earth. This tour usually ends at the Tajo de Ronda, where we will enjoy classic views.

Tour variants and options

The tour combines with the visit of local hotspots , Arroyo Las Ventillas, Torcal de Cartajima, Sierra de Las Nieves, Rio Guadiaro.

Ronda, an excellent base for ornithological excursions. For its geographical location with respect to areas of international interest for birds nearby. For its outstanding birdlife of the Mediterranean rocks, which are worth the visit alone. For its extensive network of trails. For the rural culture of La Serranía far from mass tourism.

As for the village of Grazalema, it is undoubtedly the best known and with the best services to enjoy an ecotourism vacation in Andalusia without the need of a car.

The “plus”. Observing the ibex in the Andalusian mountain ranges is relatively common.
