An excellent bird watching tour to the most interesting sites of Málaga / Costa del Sol. What is even more exceptional: we visit most of the major ecosystems of Andalusia, from the seaside to the top of the mountain… to develop a good knowledge of Mediterranean fauna.

Some of the best observatories for scarce species and for bird photography.

A morning appointment is strongly recommended. The spots visited will depend on the appointment. A visit to the ornithological reserve of the Guadalhorce estuary is essential given its ranking as the second ornithological hotspot for Spain on the eBird page.

We will begin this tour by observing the abundant marine and coastal birds in winter and during migration periods, especially looking for Balearic and Mediterranean birds. Guadalmar (Málaga) or Calaburras (departing from Marbella). If we are lucky, we will observe common dolphins moving in groups.

The Guadalhorce site is undoubtedly one of the best bird watching sites in Spain and Andalusia. Unsurprisingly, water birds and wading birds await us. On the best days of March, experienced birders detect up to a hundred species in this small reserve.

If we have decided on a long day of exploration, it is time to head to the mountains… The timing will be ideal for the birds of prey and, on hot days, the pine forest will protect us from the heat. Direction El Chorro (inland Málaga) and its colony of vultures. Departing from Marbella, we will prefer to visit El Juanar and its beautiful views of Africa.

Our long loop will also take us to the banks of Río Grande, a shallow river where we will surely add species to our list for the day. The light will be most favorable at the end of the afternoon.

For all ornithological tours, we provide an illustrated list of the most likely species in the habitats visited calibrated to the period of your visit. A handy mini-field guide.
